Generative art. Sticks

Hello.

Out of nowhere, a memory of characters written in a vertical column flashed through my mind. Apparently, in the East, inscriptions are sometimes or often arranged vertically. For someone not particularly familiar with the East, for me, characters are just a set of strokes.

In pursuit of my visualization, I sketched something with the addition of random variables. Each line was short and positioned on a grid with a slight random deviation and rotation at a random angle. I decided to use three primary colors—red, blue, and yellow—to create a bright and dynamic pattern. At the same time, I decided to experiment a bit more and made several variations.

The first variation has one color completely filling the space, the second fills it by 2/3, and the third by 1/3.

In the second variation, I added more variability vertically on the left side and less on the right.

The third variation involves filling grid cells with strokes in the same color ratio. But if a cell was already occupied by a color, it couldn’t be occupied by another color.

Another variation was related to errors in the algorithm, which was also interesting.

As a result, I have another series of paintings.

Perhaps it is worth playing around with the colors and size some more. For now, I’ve put together a short video rendering the sketch.
